Mining engineer; managed mines in California, Mexico and the Roadside Mine near Tucson which he opened in 1921. He was associate editor of the Mining and Scientific Press. In 1913, he married his second wife, Frances Douglas, a scholar known for translation of Spanish writers. Frances was married to Charles Lummis from 1891 to 1911.
